Huawei and Xiaomi see global smartphone sales increase

Huawei shipped 16.8 million smartphones in Q3 2014, an overall increase of 26% on the previous year.

The vendor also doubled the amount of high-end devices sold during the same period in 2013, with around a quarter of total smartphone sales consisting of mid-range to high-end devices.

While Huawei sells more devices within China than overseas, the ratio is increasingly narrow and closing in on 50:50. The vendor is expecting its P7 and Mate 7 models to drive “significant growth” in Q4.

Fellow Chinese device maker Xiaomi also saw a 20% rise in sales in Q3, after taking the lead in the domestic smartphone market in Q2 with a 14% share. Its global market share is 5.1%, compared to Huawei’s 6-7%. The firms shipped 15.1 million and 20.1 million units respectively.
