Indosat’s AI security tool blocks more than 2bn spam and scam attempts

Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) said its AI-powered cybersecurity software has detected and blocked more than 2 billion spam and scam attempts across its network, marking a major milestone in its efforts to protect customers.

The anti-spam and anti-scam feature was developed with technology partner Tanla and runs on its Wiseley AI platform. IOH said the majority of threats originate from OTP fraud, phishing and fake lottery schemes, typically delivered via SMS and voice calls, with activity spiking around festive periods.

Around 2.5 million users have activated the service through the IOH app, reporting more than 124,000 fraudulent incidents. The operator estimates the tool has helped prevent up to US$500 million in potential financial losses, with 95% of users saying they feel more protected as a result.

Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, said the initiative highlights the importance of cross-sector collaboration in building a safer digital environment, describing IOH’s deployment as a practical example of how AI can be used to protect consumers.

IOH CEO Vikram Sinha added that strengthening the feature reflects the operator’s focus on addressing real customer needs, noting that AI enables threats to be filtered at the network level before they can reach users.
