UAE-based e& Carrier & Wholesale and global internet exchange operator DE-CIX have followed up last month’s IX interconnection deal with plans to establish an Internet corridor between the UAE and India.
Under a deal announced on Wednesday, e& and DE-CIX India said they aim to provide seamless, high-speed Internet services across the Middle East and India.
The deal comes around two weeks after e& announced it would connect its SmartHub IX data centres across the Middle East directly to DE-CIX’s global network and international internet exchanges, with the stated goal of turning the UAE into a major internet interconnection hub whilst also enhancing the broader Middle East IX ecosystem.
Nabil Baccouche, e&’s group chief carrier and wholesale officer, said the UAE-India corridor would drive the growth of Internet traffic across the Middle East and India, as well as give its customers enhanced network coverage and peering performance.
“This mutually beneficial partnership not only fits with our vision of fostering a vibrant and interconnected digital ecosystem but also empowers businesses and individuals across various industries to thrive in a seamless digital landscape,” he said in a statement.
The deal also means a better experience for DE-CIX India customers, said the IX operator’s chief business officer Sundhir Kunder.
“This will be a force multiplier for us in terms of faster international customer onboarding, bringing in the ease of doing business for them,” he said. “It will simplify access for customers on DE-CIX India's IXs over an existing connection, reducing cost and time to provision while enabling greater control and reach."
