Jio Platforms parent company Reliance Industries (RIL) has announced a joint venture with Meta to build agentic AI enterprise platforms and tools for businesses in India and select international markets.
Under the agreement, both companies have committed to an initial investment of INR8.5 billion (US$100 million), with the joint venture split 70% to the Indian conglomerate and 30% to the US tech giant. Completion of the deal is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in Q4.
The new tools will be developed using Meta’s Llama large language model and RIL’s digital infrastructure, with the aim of delivering “enterprise-grade AI at affordable price points.”
The first offering will be what the companies describe as ‘Enterprise AI Platform-as-a-Service’ - a full-stack environment for organisations to deploy and manage generative AI models for specific use cases across departments including sales, marketing, IT, and customer service.
Alongside this, industry-specific AI solutions are also being developed.
The partners said they will be able to deploy high-performance AI models at scale “at a fraction of the cost given Llama’s lower total cost of ownership.” The joint venture will also have the flexibility to deploy across cloud, on-premises, and its own infrastructure, allowing more proactive cost management.
Shri Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, said: “Partnering with Meta brings our vision of providing AI to every Indian and enterprise to life – by combining Meta’s widely adopted open-source Llama models with our deep expertise across multiple industries. We will democratise enterprise-grade AI for every Indian organisation – from ambitious SMBs to blue-chip corporates – enabling them to innovate faster, operate more efficiently, and compete confidently on the global stage. RIL will also serve as a real-world, enterprise-scale environment for deploying and refining the joint venture’s offerings, enabling rapid iteration and continuous improvement at scale.”
Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Meta, added: “We’re excited to deepen our partnership with Reliance to bring the power of open-source AI to Indian developers and enterprises. Through this joint venture, we’re putting Meta’s Llama models into real-world use, and I’m looking forward to Meta expanding its footprint in the enterprise space as we unlock new possibilities together.”
