Malaysian telco U Mobile has signed separate deals with Chinese vendors Huawei and ZTE, both aimed at driving adoption of 5G-Advanced and AI for enterprise use cases.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Thursday, U Mobile named Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) as one of its strategic technology partners to establish its Enterprise Innovation Platform (EIP).
The EIP will serve as a 5G-A and AI innovation sandbox for end-to-end ecosystem partners to develop and adopt enterprise use cases for both technologies, leveraging drawing from Huawei’s experience in its 5G-to-Business (5G-to-B), 5G-to-Consumer (5G-to-C) and 5G-to-Home (5G-to-H) segments
U Mobile said the EIP will enable the design and integration of network architectures for solutions development, pilot projects and proof of concept (PoC) activities. The platform will also explore monetisation initiatives leveraging AI and machine learning to improve customer experience, as well as host awareness and outreach programmes, including tech demonstrations, seminars, exhibitions, roadshows and digital campaigns.
“As Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, we are committed to accelerating enterprise 5G adoption and digital transformation, enabling businesses to benefit from the latest innovations in next gen Ultra5G connectivity and AI, supported by Huawei’s expertise,” said U Mobile CTO Woon Ooi Yuen in a statement.
The Huawei agreement comes a day after U Mobile and ZTE signed an MoU on Wednesday to co-develop AI-enhanced 5G-A network solutions tailored specifically for enterprises in East Malaysia in terms of the geographic and environmental conditions of different economic sectors.
U Mobile and ZTE will also collaborate to develop an “intelligent 5G-enabled industrial campus” framework to accelerate industrial digitalisation. Under this initiative, the two companies will jointly identify pilot locations in East Malaysia to trial and verify the solutions, integrated with AI and network slicing to unlock smarter operations and enhance efficiency.
Ultimately, U Mobile and ZTE said they aim to create replicable deployment models of these campuses to further accelerate adoption across industries in East Malaysia.
Woon said the project is “laying the groundwork for scalable, high-performance infrastructure that supports industrial innovation and inclusive digital growth for East Malaysians.”
