Ericsson and Zain Bahrain announced on Monday they have expanded their strategic partnership to include Ericsson’s 5G Edge User Plane technology, which Zain will deploy to enable Industry 4.0 technologies in Bahrain’s industrial sector.
Ericsson said that its local packet gateway solution with Edge User Plane technology will deliver faster, smarter, secure traffic and more resilient connectivity for Zain’s 5G network, optimising performance while also enabling ultra-low latency.
Zain Bahrain said the technology will enable its 5G network to support Industry 4.0 technologies, such as AI-powered predictive maintenance, autonomous systems, and real-time monitoring.
Zain Bahrain acting CEO Ammar Al Ketbi said the move will support Bahrain’s vision for a vibrant and sustainable digital economy by enabling Industry 4.0 technologies and establishing a framework to accelerate the next wave of industrial innovation in the country.
“By introducing latest 5G solutions with Edge User Plane capabilities, we are paving the way for a new era of intelligent connectivity that will empower enterprises and industries to innovate, transform, and thrive in the digital age,” he said in a statement.
The announcement comes several months after Ericsson signed a deal with Zain Bahrain to supply RAN gear for its 4G and 5G networks to boost capacity and enhance coverage.
Ericsson has been a key supplier for Zain Bahrain’s 5G network since 2019. Zain launched commercial 5G services in 2020.
