Pan-African service provider Vodacom has been busy with payment services both in South Africa, with extensions to the operator’s VodaPay super app, and regionally, with a managed payment service.
Two new services have been added to the VodaPay super app. Both banked and unbanked users can now deposit and/or send money from their VodaPay Wallet, securely, cost-effectively and instantly.
VodaPay’s Deposit Money function makes it possible for users to add cash for free into their VodaPay Wallet through Vodacom stores and selected national retailers. Customers can even deposit money to their VodaPay Wallet at their nearest Spaza shop (an informal convenience shop business in South Africa). With cash loaded in their VodaPay Wallets, customers can buy products or make payments online with VodaPay as well as earn rewards or take advantage of daily deals.
Customers can use the money in their VodaPay wallets to buy electricity, airtime and data, as well as to pay bills without incurring extra charges. The digital wallet also offers a secure way for users to store their money as it eliminates the need to carry cash.
Meanwhile, digital payments firm Network International (NI) has been appointed to provide managed payment services to Vodacom’s financial services business, Vodacom Financial and Digital Lifestyle Services.
NI will provide omni-channel digital payment offerings, including card issuing and acquirer processing services, transaction switching capabilities, and other value-added services.
Vodacom Financial and Digital Lifestyle Services include three core focus areas: payments, lending and insurance. The offering will enable merchants to offer a range of payment devices and allow them to take payments in all transaction modes.
