Afghan network audit prompts upgrade

A major operating group in Afghanistan is upgrading the quality of its network with a new managed service solution. MTN Afghanistan is deploying Aircom International’s AIQ solution for intelligent optimisation managed services and consultancy, targeting the improvement of network KPIs and network auditing.

The selection was prompted by an extensive end-to-end network audit carried out by Aircom which examined MTN Afghanistan’s network performance and optimisation requirements, assessing its radio access network, transmission network, circuit switching core, billing system and packet switching core. This audit was intended to identify existing network glitches, with AIQ then recommending a series of ongoing techniques to improve network quality of service, increase subscriber numbers, and improve revenues.

Aircom will identify areas of the network that are over or under-dimensioned and resolve the issues, allowing the operator to improve transmission and RAN quality of service and maximise spectrum efficiency. By identifying the bottlenecks affecting network performance, where routing can be improved, and where additional capacity may be needed, it will be possible to reduce dropped call rates, improve areas of low signal strength – especially indoors – and ensure that roaming revenues are captured.

“Network performance is of critical importance in ensuring we continue to meet our customer’s growing expectations,” said Hassan Jaber, CEO at MTNA.
