Portugal’s ANACOM supports Cape Verde spectrum monitoring

Portuguese telecoms regulator ANACOM has announced that it is working with the Cape Verdean communications regulator ARME on the installation of a remote station on the island of Boa Vista to improve its spectrum monitoring system.

With last week’s inauguration of the Boa Vista station, which uses software developed by ANACOM, the Cape Verdean regulator will be able to monitor the spectrum on this island from its headquarters in the city of Praia, without having to move teams, which will lower operating costs and increase efficiency levels.

The Cape Verde regulator is already using an ANACOM-supplied system for gauging the quality of service (QoS) of mobile networks.

In addition to Cape Verde, this year ANACOM has already cooperated with Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Sao Tomé and Príncipe in Africa and Timor Leste in Asia, focusing on mobile network QoS. ANACOM says it has also helped with technical training and interference management.

Boa Vista is the third largest island of the Cape Verde archipelago. As the easternmost island, it is also closer to the African continent than the other islands.

But Boa Vista is, apparently, just the start. The longer-term objective is to install this type of station, using ANACOM software, on all the islands of the Cape Verde archipelago (of which there are ten), allowing the Cape Verdean communications regulator to optimize and complete its network of remote monitoring stations.
