BSNL and ACES India to deliver underground connectivity for Kanpur Metro

State-owned operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and telecom and digital infrastructure solutions provider ACES India have signed an agreement to deliver seamless voice and data connectivity across the Kanpur Metro's deep underground stations and tunnels.

Kampur is the second largest city of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India.

This collaboration, say the partners, ensures that passengers travelling within the underground sections will experience uninterrupted mobile network coverage.

As part of the agreement, ACES India has designed and implemented a robust in-building solution (IBS) to enhance BSNL's network reach across all underground metro stations and connecting tunnels. This deployment, say the two companies, marks a significant technological milestone for the region, making it the first metro project in Uttar Pradesh to offer comprehensive underground mobile connectivity.

A live demonstration recently showcased full mobile signal strength and smooth data services across the underground stretches.

Prabhansh Yadav, General Manager, BSNL, says: “Our collaboration with ACES India ensures a superior connectivity experience for passengers and marks a significant step forward in the development of smart infrastructure in India. BSNL subscribers can now enjoy high-quality voice and data services in the Kanpur Metro."

However, the two companies are far from the only ones targeting metros. We reported last year that Vodafone idea had successfully achieved network deployment on a new 12.44 kilometre section of the Mumbai Metro, while Bharti Airtel said it had become the first service provider to offer seamless connectivity along another new service: the recently inaugurated north-south corridor of the Pune Metro in western India

Last year Bharti Airtel also announced plans to provide 5G connectivity across the ten new stations of the recently inaugurated 33.5-kilometre Mumbai Metro Line-3 (the Aqua Line).
