Dolphin looks to make a splash as Zimbabwe’s first MVNO

Dolphin Telecoms has been issued an MVNO licence by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ).

Previous attempts to launch MVNOs in Zimbabwe’s troubled telecoms sector have faltered. However, local news outlet Zimbabwe Independent reports that Dolphin has a wholesale agreement in place with one of the country’s three mobile operators – although it declined to reveal which one.

The Independent said that Dolphin would launch services later this year, offering “a large coverage area, built on the partner’s extensive backbone.” For its part, Dolphin claims to have invested US$15 million into the launch, and is reportedly aiming to offer a wide range of customisable tariffs as well as mobile financial services.
