Play acquires Syrion in broadband expansion plan

Illiad-owned Polish operator Play expanded its TV and broadband arms by acquiring 100% shares in rival provider Syrion.

In a translated statement, Play Group said the acquisition will expand its range of fibre optic internet and digital television services, and provide consumers and businesses with higher quality and more services.

Syrion’s fibre optic network stretches 3,000km connecting 86,000 premises in over 80 towns over three provinces Śląskie, Opolskie and Lubelskie.

Play Group CEO Jean Marc Harion: “As a leader in the telecommunications industry, Play Group invests heavily in the development of the mobile and fibre optic networks and is constantly looking for business opportunities to expand the range of its services for the benefit of customers in Poland.

“The investment in Syrion supports the implementation of our goal, which is to provide customers in Poland with the widest possible access to the highest quality mobile services, the fastest fibre optic internet and digital television, ensuring their freedom of choice.”
