Dr Young-Chu Cho of KTF joins GSMA board

The President & CEO of South Korean mobile operator KTF, Dr Young-Chu Cho, has been elected to the board of the GSM Association (GSMA).

His election follows the procedure of GSMA whereby its Board comprises twelve of the largest operator groups in the world and nine other operator members nominated to reflect the needs of smaller, independent operators and to ensure global representation. KTF has been elected to the board seat made vacant by the recent acquisition of European operator group O2 by Telefonica of Spain.

Dr Cho has more than 25 years experience in Korean telecoms. Under his leadership KTF has achieved more than 12 million subscribers and is pro-actively expanding and upgrading its 3GSM (W-CDMA) network with HSDPA (the high-speed broadband mobile technology) for national coverage. Dr Cho will officially join the Board during its next meeting in New Delhi, India in June 2006. The term is for two years.
