Cambodia strips CadComms of licence and spectrum

Cambodia’s Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPTC) has revoked the licence and spectrum of one of the country’s operators.

Cambodia Advance Communications (CadComms), branded as qb, received its licence from the MPTC in 2006, and two years later launched a W-CDMA/HSDPA network which it operated via its holding of 2×10MHz blocks of 2100MHz spectrum. It also had a network sharing arrangement in place with CamGSM (Cellcard).

However, Im Vutha – a senior official at the Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia (TRC) – told the Khmer Times that the operator’s spectrum and licence had been revoked since its “business activities” had ceased, although reports had suggested that CadComms was planning to launch a 4G network.

Vutha added that the government would likely sell the requisitioned spectrum holding at auction.
