China Telecom implements NFC from Gemalto

Gemalto will implement its UpTeq Multi-Tenant NFC SIM for China Telecom as part of the operator’s commercial rollout of contactless services for mobile.

The SIM has Gemalto’s LTE management software embedded into it, providing NFC services to China Telecom’s subscribers. Numerous devices are compatible with the technology, providing a range of options to the operator’s 183 million customers.

Currently, the technology allows for payments involving public transportation, dining, shopping and fuel. The services will expand in the future to encompass airport check-in, personal authentication and employee ID services.
