Pan-Asian data centre operator Digital Edge announced on Monday it has formed a joint venture with Thai energy company B.Grimm Power to develop hyperscale, AI-ready data centre campuses across Thailand, starting with a flagship 100MW greenfield project.
The JV – which will operate under the brand name Digital Edge DC – said the 100MW project will be established somewhere in Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), which covers the provinces of Chonburi, Chachoengsao and Rayong.
Digital Edge said the EEC project will offer high-density colocation, interconnectivity, and hybrid cloud solutions tailored for hyperscalers, AI workloads, and enterprise digital transformation. The company also said it envisions the site as a “vital anchor” for AI and cloud service providers targeting Southeast Asia.
“Together, we are introducing world-class data centre infrastructure powered by sustainable energy – at hyperscale capacity and accelerated speed,” said Digital Edge CEO John Freeman. “As demand for AI and machine learning continues to surge, our entry into Thailand comes at an ideal time to support the country’s digital transformation.”
B.Grimm Power group president Harald Link said his company will bring its expertise in green energy solutions to the table to ensure the JV’s hyperscale data centre projects are sustainable.
“By combining renewable energy with cutting-edge data centre technology, we’re enabling the country’s transformation into a regional AI and cloud innovation hub,” he said in a statement.
Digital Edge DC aims to fast-track construction of the site, which is scheduled to be ready for service in Q4 2026, to meet “the urgent needs of global tech players scaling their AI infrastructure in Southeast Asia.”
According to recent industry reports, Thailand’s data centre market is projected to grow at over 25% CAGR through 2030, with AI-driven compute needs accelerating demand for scalable and energy-efficient facilities. The Thai government has committed more than US$2.7 billion in incentives for data centre and cloud investments to transform Thailand into a regional digital hub.
B.Grimm Power, the power business arm of B.Grimm Group, Thailand's oldest multinational conglomerate, began targeting the country’s data centre sector last year to capitalise on the sector’s growth.
In December 2024, B.Grimm Power signed an MoU with ST Telemedia Global Data Centres’ Thailand unit to study, design and jointly develop low-carbon energy solutions for the data centre sector.
