Nokia announced on Thursday that it has signed a deal with Philippine fibre broadband provider Converge ICT Solutions to deploy its data center fabric solution to future-proof Converge’s new data centres with AI and automation technology.
Under the deal, Converge ICT will deploy Nokia’s 7220 Interconnect Router (IXR) data center switches running the next-gen SR-Linux network operating system (NOS) and event-driven automation (EDA) platform, the latter of which promises improved response time and consistent performance while consuming less computing resources. No financial details were disclosed.
Converge ICT CEO and co-founder Dennis Anthony Uy said the solution will help the operator enhance network performance, scalability and efficiency while improving service agility, delivering a consistent high-quality experience while addressing growing demands for AI-driven workloads.
“As Converge and many forward-looking technology companies increasingly host AI applications, we need to ensure there is seamless integration with traditional applications,” Uy said in a statement. “We see AI workloads and high-performance computing to becoming an essential part of our operations, so we’re prepping our data centre networks to be designed for extreme scalability and reliability.”
The solution also promises to make Converge ICT’s data centre operations more compliant with data sovereignty regulations, as well as more sustainable by using automation to reduce energy consumption, said Converge’s chief network transformation officer Paulo Martin Santos.
“The use of automation and AI will enable us to ensure regulatory compliance and to enhance network operations to gain a business edge,” Santos said.
Converge ICT signed a MoU with US-based IT solutions provider Supermicro in July 2024 to help it build three 'green' AI data centres in Pampanga, Laguna, and Caloocan. The data centres, designed by Supermicro, will host servers leveraging Nvidia GPUs capable of supporting generative AI applications such as a national large language model (LLM), smart manufacturing and video generators.
