Singapore-based telecoms solutions provider Globe Teleservices (GTS) announced on Monday it has signed an exclusive three-year contract to deploy its advanced A2P SMS firewall solutions for Malaysian telco CelcomDigi.
Under the deal, GTS’ SMS firewall will provide CelcomDigi with real-time threat detection and filtering to block malicious content such as phishing, spam, and SMS fraud before it reaches users, thus preventing unauthorised traffic and securing message pathways.
GTS said the solution will enable CelcomDigi customers to receive only trusted, verified communications from legitimate businesses, which is increasingly essential as mobile messaging becomes a critical communication tool for businesses and consumers.
Ashutosh Agrawal, group CEO of Globe Teleservices, said the partnership will “drive the future of A2P messaging in Malaysia” and help protect mobile users from fraudulent messages and scams while ensuring a seamless, high-quality messaging experience.
According to a recent report from research and consulting firm IMARC, the global A2P messaging market reached US$72.2 billion in 2024, with the Asia Pacific region accounting for just over 44.5% of that figure. IMARC expects the A2P market to top US$98 billion by 2033 at a CAGR of 3.54% (starting from 2025).
Meanwhile, a recent study from Juniper Research found that A2P SMS has played a key role in reducing artificially inflated traffic (AIT), a form of fraud in which non-genuine A2P SMS traffic is generated to raise SMS volumes that enterprises still must pay for. Enterprises lost US$2.1 billion in 2023 to AIT, but those losses have been declining thanks to enterprises migrating traffic to A2P SMS.
Juniper reckons that as A2P grows in popularity, the global cost of AIT to enterprises is set to decline by 55% between 2024 and 2029.
