AIS launches hyperscale cloud service for local AI workloads

AIS Business said on Thursday that it has launched what it says is Thailand’s first locally-based hyperscale cloud service using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to support AI workloads for public and private organizations.

The platform (branded as “AIS Cloud – Thai Hyperscale Cloud”) is designed to handle large-scale workloads with high flexibility through auto-scaling capabilities, and offers end-to-end support for emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, and big data.

The launch comes almost a year after AIS announced in August 2024 it would deploy Oracle Alloy in its data centres to launch Thailand’s first locally owned and operated hyperscale cloud service.

The service targets Thai enterprises with comprehensive and locally tailored services, to include Thai-language contract execution and service billing in baht to mitigate foreign exchange risks.

Another selling point for AIS is that everything runs on data centres located within Thailand and governed by Thai law, which ensures full compliance with cybersecurity standards and data sovereignty regulations.

This is critical, said AIS chief enterprise business officer Phupa Akavipat, as AI requires massive volumes of data, making it critical for such data to be stored and processed locally under Thai jurisdiction. This not only ensures digital sovereignty and data security but also mitigates long-term risks related to policy compliance, governance, and operational continuity.

“We firmly believe that Thailand must have its own AI capabilities to ensure long-term technological sovereignty and resilience,” he said in a statement. “At AIS, we are convinced that ‘digital infrastructure owned and operated by Thais’ is the cornerstone of national development in the digital era.”

Phupa added that AIS has also launched a network-as-a-service (NaaS) solution that empowers enterprises to manage and configure their network usage independently via a self-service portal.

“This brings added convenience for expanding or modifying network connections and endpoints – both domestically and internationally – while ensuring seamless integration with AIS Cloud through a variety of connectivity options, including fibre optic and 5G,” he said.
