Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) is launching its flagship M40 and M50 smartphones using WCDMA//HSPA (+) chipsets from Spreadtrum.
MPT is the largest telecommunications services provider in Myanmar, with 8,000 employees and a nationwide data network. Having formed a strategic alliance with leading Japanese mobile operator KDDI and with Sumitomo Corporation in 2014, it plans to invest US$2 billion and bring in advanced operations and management experience to promote the development of 2G, 3G and 4G mobile networks as well as a fixed-line network.
The operator chose Spreadtrum’s highly integrated WCDMA//HSPA(+) chipset for its new smartphones to best meet the needs of the user base in Myanmar.
The premium-build M50 uses Spreadtrum 28nm WCDMA/HSPA(+) /GSM/GPRS/EDGE chipset SC7731G with an embedded quad-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A7 processor. It features a double-sided glass separated by metal frame design, a 5-inch HD on-cell 2.5D curved glass touchscreen, 1G RAM, 8GB storage, an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. It is pre-installed with the Android 5.1, supporting dual-card-two-standby.
Based on the Spreadtrum quad-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A7 WCDMA/HSPA(+) /GSM/GPRS/EDGE chipset SC7731C, the entry-level M40 supports dual-card-two-standby and features a 4 inch 800×480 pixels touch screen, 512 M RAM, 4GB storage, a 2 MP rear camera.
