A new survey that has gained a lot of interest in the Indian press says that 81 percent of mobile phone users in the country now use a 4G smartphone.
The survey, from data science-driven technology company MoMAGIC, suggested that more users are now using 4G networks for the mobile internet thanks to a more affordable 4G mobile data price. In an October 2017 survey from the same company only 56 percent of respondents were using 4G mobile phones.
The reasons cited for this change were affordability, network reach and affordable 4G-supported phones. However, cost is still limiting use. Even though India offers some of the cheapest mobile data deals in the world, some 49 per cent of respondents limit their mobile data.
Some 30 percent of buyers are said to be paying between the equivalent of $115 and $203 for their phones, which, while still expensive for many consumers, could be attractive for companies able to offer lower-priced models as some Chinese companies are already doing.
Battery capacity seems to be the main concern in terms of performance. Brand and camera quality are among the main factors influencing purchase. Networking on social media was found to be the top use case, followed by email and messaging.
Arun Gupta, Founder and CEO of MoMAGIC Technologies, has been quoted as saying that the company expects over 90 percent of Indian users will move to 4G networks before the end of the year.
