Ericsson announced on Thursday it has signed a strategic microwave frame contract with Veon-owned digital operator Jazz to strengthen its network backbone in Pakistan.
Under the contract, Jazz will deploy Ericsson’s Mini-Link solutions and services over the next five years to scale and modernise its backbone. Ericsson said its microwave solutions provide flexible high-capacity, multi-band capabilities and compact design that can support frequency combinations and configurations in diverse environments.
Jazz said the deployment will ready its infrastructure for future 4G expansion and seamless transition to 5G in both urban and underserved rural areas.
Jazz CTO Khalid Shehzad said that the deployment accelerates the telco’s evolution to its “ServiceCo” vision to offer nationwide connectivity and multiple digital services.
“By integrating Ericsson’s latest microwave solutions, we will enhance capacity, improve reliability, and broaden digital access for communities across Pakistan, enabling better experiences and greater opportunities in education, health, finance, commerce, and beyond,” he said in a statement.
Aamir Ahsan Khan, president of Ericsson Pakistan, added that the contract “reflects our shared vision of ensuring scalable, resilient, and future-ready networks that contribute to Pakistan’s socio-economic and digital advancement.”
