Transporting approximately 11 million passengers every day on the Moscow Metro is now claimed to be safer and more efficient with Andrew Corporation's completion of the first phase of a major communications network covering seven lines of the Russian capital's landmark 12-line system.

The Moscow Metro Unified Radio Network, based on the TETRA standard for mobile radio, enables effective communications which will support metro personnel, for example, between dispatch and rail cars, and for security purposes.

Led by general contractor Yust Telecom, the complex project is one of the largest metro projects ever undertaken by Andrew. It included a combination of passive equipment such as radiating and coaxial cables, and active equipment such as repeaters that Andrew engineers helped commission. Andrew manufactured and delivered more than 440 km of cable and about 270 repeaters in three months for the project.

Andrew has over 15 years experience in designing, installing, and managing large and complex radio frequency distribution systems for metropolitan railways, building owners, and public mobile radio and telephone operators throughout the world. Major projects include the Hong Kong metro, Dallas Fort  Worth  International Airport , Sydney Olympics, Montreal Metro, Turin Metro, and Germany' s Inter-City Express high speed rail.
