Due to the steep growth in mobile broadband traffic, Tata Docomo has modernised its 3G network using Nokia Networks’ Single RAN (radio access network) product and services.
Customers will soon enjoy better data services with higher network coverage and capacity, with Nokia providing its Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station featuring HSPA+ ( High-Speed Packet Access) technology and Radio Network Controllers.
Nokia will oversee all network planning, optimisation and project management services, as well as hardware and software support to ensure a smooth network roll out.
The vendor is providing its Flexi Lite Base Stations for enhancing capacity and providing best coverage in densely crowded areas, as well as its NetAct network management system for effective monitoring and management of Tata Docomo’s network.
Neeraj Dindore, chief technology officer at Tata Docomo, said: “This initiative underlines Tata Docomo’s focus on further enhancing customer experience by bringing best in class solutions for mobile data consumers in India. We are working together to be leaders in harnessing the potential of the data services market in the country.”
Sandeep Girotra, head of India region at Nokia Networks, said: “We have committed our resources and technology to ensure a rapid expansion of Tata Docomo’s network. This contract strengthens our long-standing partnership with the operator and Tata Docomo’s endeavour to become the operator-of-choice in India.”
3G growth in India is higher than the world’s average, at 156% y-o-y in 2013. On an average, consumption on 3G (532MB/month/user) grew in India by almost 100 MB in 2013.
However, 3G coverage in India is limited. On an average, in several circles in India there is a 20-25% coverage gap between 2G and 3G, which, if bridged, can possibly help in delivering even stronger mobile data growth in India.
