Czech units of Telefonica and Vodafone could share networks

Two major operators in the Czech Republic could be on the verge of entering into a network-sharing agreement.

Telefonica Czech Republic and Vodafone are reportedly weighing up the saving that a network joint venture would offer them.

Telefonica estimates that an infrastructure sharing agreement with Vodafone would lower its Czech operation’s expenditure by more than CZK 4 billion (€155 million) across the next 15 years.

The operator actually already has a 3G infrastructure sharing arrangement with the Czech unit of T-Mobile. However, the Vodafone deal is suggested to be on a far larger scale – the firm is reportedly considering investing €40 million as part of the agreement.

Telefonica is the second largest operator in the Czech Republic, with over 5 million subscribers. Vodafone follows it with 3.3 million.
