Paratus lights new fibre route linking Kenya, DRC, Rwanda and Uganda

Pan-African telecoms network services provider Paratus Group announced on Monday it has switched on a new terrestrial fibre route in East Africa connecting cities in Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda and Uganda.

Paratus said the newly activated 2,000-km G2M (Goma-to-Mombasa) fibre route runs directly from Mombasa on the Kenyan coast to Goma in the eastern DRC, with stops in Kigali (Rwanda), Kampala (Uganda) and Nairobi (Kenya).

The G2M route features direct interconnections into key data centres in each city, promising resilient, high-capacity connectivity designed specifically for carriers, ISPs and enterprise clients operating across borders. The route is already carrying traffic for its first wholesale customers.

Paratus Group COO Martin Cox described the G2M route as a critical step in enabling East Africa’s digital economy.

“By creating a protected route from the coast all the way into Goma, we’re giving operators and enterprises direct, reliable access to global capacity,” he said in a statement. “It dramatically improves resilience and performance, while opening new commercial opportunities across Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and the DRC.”

Cox added that the route significantly strengthens Paratus Group’s East African footprint, creating a continuous, fully integrated regional network that complements its broader East-West fibre backbone that runs from Maputo to Swakopmund and interconnects with the Equiano subsea cable, as well as its LEO satellite footprint in Goma, Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya.

“The G2M route strengthens everything we’ve already built in East Africa and makes Paratus the natural connectivity partner for businesses that operate across borders,” he said.

Paratus is fully licensed in all East African countries through its subsidiary operating companies, Paratus Rwanda, Paratus Uganda and Paratus Kenya, in partnership with Roke Telkom in Uganda and MoveOn Telecoms in Kenya.

Last November, Paratus launched its “Paratus 500” service that leverages all of its licenced fibre and satellite operations in 15 sub-Saharan markets as a single network.
