Claro Colombia has received a block of 3.5GHz spectrum to conduct 5G trials.
Colombian regulator MinTIC (Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications/Ministerio de Tecnologias de la Informacion y las Comunicaciones) has allocated the block to Claro for six months, with an option to extend the trial period for a further six months.
The trials will be non-commercial, with Claro testing mobile and fixed-wireless 5G services via base stations in the cities of Barrancabermeja, Bogota, Cali and Medellin.
Claro is set to explore the potential of 5G in other fields – including assisted vehicles, e-health, smart cities and virtual reality – via partnerships with public and private institutions.
