Burkina Faso’s regulator ARCEP (Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts) has opened a public consultation over issuing spectrum for fixed internet offerings.
As reported by TeleGeography, industry stakeholders have been invited to offer suggestions for the frequency bands, technologies and duplexing standard (TDD or FDD) that should be used, as well as the size of the allocations and the overall amount of spectrum to be released.
Additionally, ARCEP is seeking to gauge interest in which geographical areas the licences should cover, and the preferred process for issuing the spectrum. The consultation is open until 5th January 2021.
The regulator noted that it decided to open the consultation in response to several operators applying for spectrum allocations even though it had put the process on hold to ease congestion in certain frequency bands that were designated for fixed wireless usage.
ARCEP has identified the 1900MHz-1920MHz, 2300MHz-2400MHz, 2500MHz-2690MHz, 2570MHz-2620MHz, 3300MHz-3400MHz, and 3400MHz-3600MHz frequency bands as candidates for WiLL internet services.
