Ericsson aiming to boost local manufacturing in India

Ericsson has pledged to manufacture all telecoms equipment sold in India domestically, in line with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

As reported by The Economic Times, Andres Vicente, market chief for Southeast Asia, Oceania and India at Ericsson, said at India Mobile Congress 2025: “Our intention is to manufacture in India everything we sell in India.”

Vicente noted that this would include 6G equipment, with Ericsson planning to begin trialling the standard in India next year. The Swedish vendor currently manufactures 4G and 5G gear in India, but still needs to import numerous components to do so.

“We need to change that by investing in a holistic way, not only in anchor brands like Ericsson, but also in the ecosystem of components, filters, batteries and many other things”, said Vicente. “India has a lifetime opportunity… to become an alternative ecosystem where all the components are produced here.”

Ericsson has three R&D centres in India. It recently expanded its ASIC (application specific integrated chips) R&D in Bengaluru, and has begun local production of passive antennas together with VVDN Technologies.
