Pioneer and CSquared Woezon connect Togo to Equiano Cable

Pioneer Consulting says it has completed deployment of the Togolese branch of Google's Equiano Cable for CSquared Woezon.
The Togo branch can provide up to 3 Tbps of capacity between Togo and Portugal, with additional connectivity to Nigeria and South Africa planned for the second half of 2023.
It’s the second subsea cable to land in Togo, following the Maroc Telecom West Africa system that connects Gabon with Morocco. As such, the Equiano link not only provides extra broadband capacity, but a redundant link for enhanced reliability.
"This subsea cable branch will offer advanced broadband, providing increased internet access for work, school, telehealth, and entertainment for the Togolese community,” said Gavin Tully, managing partner at Pioneer Consulting in a statement.
CSquared Woezon is a JV formed last year by CSquared and Togolese state-owned telecoms asset company Société d’Infrastructures Numériques (SIN) to oversee development of the Equiano branch. Pioneer landed a contract from CSquared Woezon in March 2022 for overall design, procurement, and implementation of the cable landing station and the system’s transmission equipment.
Google’s Equiano Cable system runs 15,000 km between Portugal and South Africa, with landing points at Togo, Nigeria, St Helena and Namibia. The system – which delivering 144 Tbps of capacity over 12 fibre pairs – was launched in September 2022. SEACOM went live on the cable in March 2023.
