Fresh off revealing an ambitious expansion plan for its VoLTE network, Indonesia’s Telkomsel has announced that it aims to launch a commercial 5G network this week.
The country’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Johnny G. Plate stated: “The 5G services will be launched on 27 May 2021, and be available for use by limited and gradual steps in six residential locations in Greater Jakarta and other cities: Solo, Medan, Balikpapan, Denpasar, Batam, Surabaya, Makassar and Bandung. Other cities will follow.”
CommsUpdate reports that Telkomsel received its Certificate of Acceptability for Operation (SKLO) for 5G technology from the ministry on 24th May 2021, allowing the operator to begin commercial 5G operations using its 2300MHz spectrum.
“The deployment of 5G also marks that from now on Indonesia is entering the simultaneous stage of 4G and 5G operations”, added Plate.
