The Indian state-owned operator BSNL is building out its network infrastructure to provide next generation broadband and triple play across India.

India is a key growth market, with analysts estimating that the next few years will see the subcontinent’s broadband subscriptions rise from the current few million to over a hundred million.

The network will be deployed via ITI, a public sector body under the jurisdiction of the Department of Telecommunications. ITI has signed a trilateral agreement with two companies – Orckit-Corrigent and Alphion – for the provision of network equipment.

Orckit-Corrigent is a provider of carrier Ethernet + transport (CE+T) solutions, and will provide its CM-4000 products for the deployment.

“Orckit-Corrigent is proud to partner with ITI and Alphion to build out BSNL’s networking infrastructure,” said Mr. Izhak Tamir, Co-Founder, Chairman of the Board and President at Orckit. “We are strongly committed to India, BSNL and ITI and we look forward to future work with our partners as we continue to establish Orckit-Corrigent’s presence in India.”

Orckit-Corrigent CM-4000 CE+T metro aggregation Ethernet switches are based on MPLS and RPR standards and include QoS, OAM and protection technologies for end-to-end triple play and enterprise VPN services. The solution is particularly suited to broadband and FTTX deployments as it incorporates high density 10GE ports commonly found in fibre-based broadband services.
