Commercial 4G makes its debut in Samoa

The Samoan Islands have passed a milestone with the launch of their first commercial 4G services. The service provider Bluesky has launched two HSPA+ networks – one covering Samoa (western islands) and one covering American Samoa (eastern islands).

“Launching these 4G networks is our first step in delivering on our commitment to our customers to make broadband available to everyone in Samoa and American Samoa,” said Adolfo Montenegro, the Chief Executive Officer and President of Bluesky.

With the new 4G HSPA+ networks, both postpaid and prepaid customers will have access to broadband, with speeds of up to 21 Mbps for download and 5.6 Mbps for upload.

“By bringing 4G wireless technology to the region, we are offering our local consumer and business customers the ability to enjoy a more powerful and robust wireless data experience. That will translate into greater productivity, expanded business opportunities, and exciting new entertainment options,” added Montenegro.
