More success for Gilat in Peru with airport deal

The Peruvian Corporation of Commercial Airports and Aviation (CORPAC) has awarded satellite networking technology, solutions and services company Gilat a multi-million-dollar contract to provide mission-critical telecom systems for 29 of Peru's airports.

CORPAC is a government entity in charge of the administration of most of the airports in Peru. Gilat will design, supply, implement and commission equipment for communication, navigation and surveillance (CNS) services in Peru's airports.

Communication refers to communication between two or more aircraft, the exchange of data or verbal information between aircraft and air traffic control, and the ground-based communication infrastructure of the ATM network. Navigation, in this case, refers to the process of planning, recording, and controlling the movement of an aircraft from one place to another. Surveillance systems are used by air traffic control to determine the position of aircraft.

"Gilat was selected by CORPAC due to its proven execution capabilities of large-scale government projects," said Arieh Rohrstock, general manager Gilat Peru and corporate VP. "This project will open the door to additional large deals as we intend to deliver upon our strategy of significantly increasing business in Peru."

It’s certainly true that Gilat has been busy in Peru over recent years. As we reported at the time, in November 2019 it won a $10 million five-year project for 3G/4G backhaul services. In 2018 Gilat was awarded $153.6 million by Fitel Peru (a telecommunications investment fund) for regional telecommunications projects. This was one of a number of Fitel-awarded deals in recent years.

In 2016 Peruvian market leader Telefonica del Peru placed orders for Gilat’s SkyEdge II-c platform to extend cellular and broadband coverage to rural areas nationwide.
