Aperto Networks, builder of WiMax-certified base stations and subscriber units, has announced that Arab Telecom is deploying a nationwide broadband wireless network in Kuwait using Aperto state-of-the-art broadband wireless PacketWave gear.

Arab Telecom will be deploying Aperto PacketWave base stations operating in the 3.5 GHz band in a nationwide rollout which will cover Kuwait's population of 2.2 million. The company will also be using Aperto's gear to offer a range of connectivity services to enterprises, small businesses and residential users in urban and rural areas throughout Kuwait.

The applications that will be available through the Aperto broadband wireless platform include remote WAN/LAN access, corporate intranets and extranets, high-speed Internet access, file transfer, interactive distance learning, video conferencing, information broadcast and telemedicine. Data rates range from 128 kb/s up to multiple E1s.
